Junior Ryder Cup – Team USA Qualifying

Eligibility

The United States team will feature six boys and six girls who are U.S. citizens and are members of the high school graduating class of 2021, or younger. All potential players must compete in the 2020 Girls or Boys Junior PGA Championship to be eligible, unless exceptional circumstances prevented the player from competing.

Exemptions

1) 2020 – 45th Boys Junior PGA Championship winner and runner-up (total of 2 boys) to be contested July 13-16, 2020.  In an event there is a tie for 2nd place between two eligible players, there will be a hole by hole play-off immediately following play to determine the spot. If the champion or runner up is not eligible, the next highest ranked player on the USA Junior Ryder Cup points list will be selected*.

2) 2020 – U.S. Girls’ Junior Champion, to be contested July 13-18, 2020. If the champion is not eligible, the next highest ranked player on the USA Junior Ryder Cup points list will be selected*.

3) 2020 – U.S. Junior Amateur Champion, to be contested July 20-25, 2020. If the champion is not eligible, the next highest ranked player on the USA Junior Ryder Cup points list will be selected*.

4) 2020 – 45th Girls Junior PGA Championship winner and runner-up (total of 2 girls) to be contested July 28-31, 2020.  In an event there is a tie for 2nd place between two eligible players, there will be a hole by hole play-off immediately following play to determine the spot. If the champion or runner up is not eligible, the next highest ranked player on the USA Junior Ryder Cup points list will be selected*.

5) Top two Boys/Girls from the USA Junior Ryder Cup points list, which will start awarding points at the 44th Girls Junior PGA Championship. Events earning points will include multiple AJGA Invitationals, USGA Junior Amateurs, Junior PGA Championships and select independent events like the Orange Bowl International Junior, Kathy Whitworth Girls Invitational and Scott Robertson Memorial. In addition, points are awarded to those juniors who make the cut in a 2019/2020 PGA Tour, LPGA Tour or USGA national event.

*All USA Junior Ryder Cup points list ties will be broken by each player’s respective 2020 Junior PGA Championship finish.

 

Captain’s Picks

6) The final two spots will be one Boy and one Girl captain’s picks for which the PGA of America will consider multiple national ranking systems such as Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, Junior Golf Scoreboard, Rolex AJGA Rankings and World Amateur Golf Rankings to pinpoint the remaining top boy/girl selections.

The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team will arrive in Wisconsin on Thursday, September 17, 2020. They will then play practice rounds at Blue Mound Golf & Country Club from September 18-20. Opening Ceremonies will kick off the event on Sept 20, followed by foursomes on the morning of Sept 21, and then mixed four-ball on Monday afternoon. Singles matches will complete play on Sept 22, followed by closing ceremonies on Tuesday afternoon. Participants in the 2020 Junior Ryder Cup will receive the opportunity to play a nine-hole Friendship Match prior (Wednesday) to the start of the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits. The matches will continue to build international friendships and be a fun experience at the Ryder Cup professional venue. The boys and girls on the team will then attend the opening ceremonies of the 43rd Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits on Sept 24 and travel back home on Sept 25. Players may elect to stay with their parent or guardian chaperones and attend the duration of the 43rd Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, Sept 25-27. Complimentary Ryder Cup tickets will be offered to the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team and their parent or guardian chaperones.
